Splats, 2016
New collection of work taking urban art into a more abstract and simplified direction. The work incorporates digitally manipulated photographs transferred onto splats of ink creating a contrast between the simple and colourless man made shapes against the naturally occurring splats of colour.
I dream my painting, and then I paint my dream. --Vincent Van Gogh--
The most recent work has developed a shift in focus. It portrays unusual experiences in an urban landscape. With the same principles as its landscape predecessors, these works invite the viewers to think of the emotions behind the work. Influenced by Bristol’s quirky and unique culture, the work has become increasingly abstract. The relevance of Van Gogh’s quote relates to my personal style of working. What the scene looks like in reality, will look nothing like how I perceive it. The finished product will have elements added or removed from the base photograph. The trees will merge with the sky and random clouds will appear. Based on your emotion, you will notice certain things and ignore others. That is what the paintings aim to convey.
